Shamsud-Din Jabbar fired a shot at officers from inside the truck he had used to kill 14 people on Bourbon Street before New Orleans Police officers returned fire and killed him, according to police body camera footage released Friday that offers the clearest picture yet of the attack's final moments.
The video focuses on the minute after Jabbar barreled down Bourbon Street in a Ford F150 at about 3:17 am on New Year's Day, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more in the process.
The footage shows three officers, with guns drawn, surrounding the truck Jabbar eventually crashed into a crane in the 300 block of Bourbon Street. Prior to the start of the video, police had opened the door to the truck.

New Orleans Attack: Videos Show Shamsud-Din Jabbar Planting Bombs
- According to the FBI, the man who rammed a New Year's Day crowd in the French Quarter used a pair of Meta glasses to record video of the targeted area months before the attack.
A fourth, who is wearing the body camera from which the footage was taken, is running toward the open door of the truck. As he reaches the door, a flash of light can be seen from inside the cab as a gun is fired from underneath a deployed air bag.
Officers then fall back and gunshots are heard.
Only that single flash can be seen from the truck on the video. NOPD officials on Friday declined to say whether Jabbar fired more than one shot before he was killed by return fire.
Three officers — Sgt. Nigel Daggs, Officer Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan — shot at Jabbar. Each was put on administrative duties while officials looked into the shooting, in keeping with NOPD policy.
NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick announced Friday morning that all three were returning to regular duties.
"It's clear that these officers were well within policy, so we have zero concerns with that," Kirkpatrick said.
Two officers, Jacobie and Officer Joseph Rorigue, sustained gunshot wounds to their thighs in the incident. There have also been reports that bystanders were hit by gunfire.
Kirkpatrick declined to answer questions about whether those injuries could have been caused by shots fired by NOPD officers, saying that would be part of the FBI investigation into the attack.
